Overview

Every expense is assigned a category. Categories help you understand where your overhead is going and power the spending breakdown chart on the Expenses page.

Categories

Shipping

Everything related to physically getting items to buyers.
  • Poly mailers, bubble mailers, boxes
  • Bubble wrap, tissue paper, packing tape
  • Postage (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc.)
  • Shipping label costs
  • Insurance on shipments

Fees

Costs charged by platforms and payment processors.
  • Marketplace seller fees (StockX, GOAT, eBay, Depop, etc.)
  • Payment processing fees (PayPal, Venmo business, etc.)
  • Authentication fees
  • Consignment fees
Platform fees are usually a percentage of the sale price. Log them after reconciling your payout reports to get the exact amount.

Storage & Space

Costs for storing your inventory.
  • Storage unit rent
  • Extra closet or room rent (if you pay separately for storage space)
  • Shelving and storage organization equipment

Tools & Software

Subscriptions and tools you use to run your resale business.
  • Selly subscription
  • Inventory management tools
  • Price tracking apps (e.g. StockX Price Guide, Sneaker News)
  • Accounting software
  • Photo editing apps
  • Social media tools

Travel & Sourcing

Costs incurred while acquiring inventory.
  • Gas and mileage for sourcing trips
  • Entry fees for sneaker conventions or trade shows
  • Parking
  • Travel to pick up items

Marketing

Costs for promoting your business or storefront.
  • Instagram or Facebook ads
  • Business card printing
  • Promotional materials

Misc

Anything that doesn’t fit the above categories.
  • Authentication services
  • Cleaning supplies for prepping items
  • One-off costs that don’t recur
When in doubt between categories, use Misc. Consistency matters more than perfection — the goal is to capture the cost, not to overthink the category.
