A purchase is an order you placed with a retailer. Selly tracks it from the moment it’s ordered until it arrives, and then turns it into inventory automatically. This is the important part: you don’t add stock by hand. When a purchase is marked delivered, its items become inventory units with their cost already worked out. That’s what keeps your profit figures honest — every item in stock can be traced back to what you actually paid for it.

Where purchases come from

Purchases come from your email. There’s no form to fill in — connect an inbox and they appear on their own.

Connect Gmail

Order confirmations are read straight from your inbox and turned into purchases. This is the one most people want.

Forward them instead

Selly gives you a private forwarding address. Send an order confirmation to it and it becomes a purchase the same way.
Both are set up in Settings → Integrations.
Bought something that never sent you an email — a local pickup, a trade, cash in hand? There’s no way to enter that as a purchase today. Add the item to your inventory directly instead; it will carry the cost you give it and behave normally when you sell it.

The statuses

1

Ordered

The order is placed. This is where a purchase starts, whether it came from an email or you added it.
2

Shipped

It’s on its way. If there’s a tracking number, Selly moves it here on its own once the carrier picks it up.
3

Delivered

It arrived — and this is when inventory is created. One unit per item, per quantity: a line for three pairs becomes three units.
Two more you’ll see less often:
  • Cancelled — the order fell through. No inventory is created.
  • Archived — hidden from your working list without being deleted.

How the cost is worked out

When a purchase is delivered, each unit gets its own cost, plus its share of the order’s tax and shipping. Those three add back up to what the order actually cost you. That matters when you sell. Profit is sale price minus what that specific unit cost you — landed, not just the sticker price — so a 200pairthatcost200 pair that cost 12 in tax and 8inshippingiscarriedat8 in shipping is carried at 220, not $200.
If an email didn’t include a per-item price, Selly spreads the order subtotal across the items rather than recording them at $0. Your total stays right even when the email was vague.
